Putting Down Roots in the Big Apple: The Atelier

Posted April 27, 2018 by Christina Bryant

We spent the last two years popping up along the West and East coast and we're finally ready to settle down. After I moved out to New York, making Greenwich Village home, we began the hunt for St. Frank's second home. We searched for a place with character, a strong neighborhood community, and room to house our creative office, too. When we walked in to 373 Bleecker Street (between Perry and Charles) in the heart of the West Village, we knew we found the one.

We teamed up, once again, with our friends at SWAYSTUDIO to transform the quirky bones of this space into something spectacular. The biggest challenge was that it was structurally chopped up with some oddly placed columns. So, we started there and used the columns to create different rooms in the St. Frank home. First a bedroom, then a dining room, then a library. We closed off the back half for our creative offices (and stockroom), but put in French doors to give shoppers a peek into our creative process - hence earning the name, "The Atelier."

We wanted #stfrankonbleeckerst to embody the European charm of the area. To bring in a bit of the traditional, we added crown moulding and baseboards. We picked a color palette of pink, orange, and muted green, leaning into a much more feminine feel than our Mott Street popup. In fact, we painted the ceilings a pale peach throughout the store and office! The floors were a mess and, frankly, we couldn’t afford to fully replace them, so we painted them an inky black to minimize attention. From there, we selected paint, inspired by Farrow & Ball colors. In the bedroom, we went with Card Room Green and Brinjal in the library. We wanted to showcase a soon-to-be released wallpaper and continue the pink theme into the creative office. Here, we made a bold move with fushia-infused Miao Cross Wallpaper. We debated the look of the dining room for a long time, but settled on the warm, neutral Mud Cloth Adobe Wallpaper as we imagined it showing off our tabletop line launching this summer (stay tuned!).

In addition to our collection, you can find reupholstered vintage pieces from Chairloom, stunning Forsyth hide pieces, and our show-stopper bespoke working table by Hobgood Furniture.
