The set of 5 vintage hamam bowls are constructed of copper. Dimensions of the bowls range from 7.5" in diameter to 4" in diameter.

The Turkish public bath, or hamam, evolved from Roman baths to become part of the Islamic ritual of purification before prayer. A hamam combines the architecture of Roman baths with the Turkish tradition of steam bathing, ritual cleansing, and respect of water. A typical hamam consists of three interconnected rooms, which were used in a precise order. The bather started in the hot room, or sıcaklık, which was for soaking up steam and getting scrub massages. Next, the bather washed in the warm room, or tepidarium. This hamam bowl was used in this room to hold soap and other washing items. Finally, the bather finished off with a rinse in the cool room, or soğukluk.
