Provenance
This fabric is inspired by a vintage textile created in Uzbekistan. Handmade in the traditional technique of suzani, the Central Asian textile is embroidered with a tambour hook and characterized by its floral pattern and meandering vines. A specialist known as a chizmachi draws out the suzani pattern and gives each fabric strip to an embroiderer. The finished pieces are then sewn back together. The result, an ornate work created by several hands, features charming irregularities and subtle mismatches that balance out the precision of the stitch. The piece's pomegranate motifs, a common element in suzani embroidery, represent fertility. The flowers and seeds further symbolize fertility and fruitfulness. These textiles are traditionally used as wall hangings or as a woman's marriage dowry.
